PGIMER surgeons remove rare brain tumour through nose, set global medical milestone

Chandigarh, Jan 15 (UNI) Doctors at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, have successfully performed a highly complex and rare brain tumour surgery on a two-year-old child from Haryana, giving the toddler a new lease of life and setting a global benchmark in minimally invasive paediatric neurosurgery.
A multidisciplinary team of neurosurgery and ENT specialists at PGIMER removed a massive 7-centimetre skull base meningioma - a rare brain tumour arising from the lower part of the skull - entirely through an endoscopic endonasal route.
The nine-hour-long procedure was carried out without any open cranial surgery, a first of its kind in such a young patient.
