People of Manipur pay tributes to jawan who died on border

Imphal, May 13 (UNI) The mortal remains of Chingakham Deepak, a BSF jawan who died in firing by Pakistan, arrived here on Tuesday.
The coffin adorned by a tricolour was laid at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport where Governor A K Bhalla, MPs, MLAs, family members, and a large number of people paid floral tributes.
BSF and Manipur Police personnel also paid floral tributes.
The body was taken to Yairipok, Imphal East, where the last rites were performed as per Manipuri traditions.
Those who visited the residence included former CM N.Biren Singh.
Biren said he visited the home of BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham at Yairipok, who laid down his life in the line of duty during cross-border shelling while bravely defending our nation against hostile fire from Pakistan.
"His quiet courage and deep sense of service will always be remembered with respect.
The love and pride his family holds for him are deeply moving. May his soul rest in peace, and may the family find strength in this difficult time." N. Biren Singh added.
Speaker , Th Satyabrata said Deepak Chingakham of Yairipok Yambem of Imphal East District was a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty at Kharkhola Border Outpost on 10th of May, 2025. He was martyred in a drone attack from Pakistan.
He will always be remembered with pride and gratitude as a courageous Manipuri soldier who fought with dedication and selflessness for the nation, Satyabrata said.
The Manipur government has announced a sum of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the jawan. Deepak, the sole bread earner of the family, was bereaved by his parents and a younger brother.
