Patiala driver’s mother recovers from cancer with aid of Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna

Chandigarh, April 18 (UNI) For Gurpinder Jeet Singh, a driver residing in Patiala, the battle against his mother’s uterine cancer was a grueling ordeal that tested both his emotional resilience and his financial stability.
His 65-year-old mother, Baljit Kaur, was diagnosed with the life-threatening illness after experiencing persistent weakness and a severe loss of appetite. What followed were months of medical uncertainty and mounting expenses that threatened to push the family into a debt trap. Gurpinder recalled the initial days of the diagnosis, noting that the financial strain became evident within weeks as the family spent over ₹60,000, forcing him to consider taking loans or selling personal belongings to continue the treatment.
The turning point for the family came when they learned about the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, a state-run health initiative providing cashless medical care at government and empanelled private hospitals. Despite initial skepticism, Gurpinder completed the necessary formalities to enroll his mother in the scheme using basic identification.
