Panel critiques Karnataka fact-check unit

Bengaluru, Nov 9 (UNI) At a panel on regulating free speech and misinformation, hosted by Ikigai Law and the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), experts criticised Karnataka’s approach to tackling disinformation, calling for transparency, consultation, and constitutionally sound laws.
Public Policy Professional Surabhi Hodigere highlighted concerns over the state's proposed Disinformation Bill, noting that the draft has not been made public and consultations with civil society, media, and the opposition appear minimal.
"While misinformation is a growing challenge, the response must be thoughtful, transparent, and constitutionally sound," Hodigere said.
