Palam records 8.2°C as visibility improves across Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Clearer visibility returned to Delhi on Thursday amid falling temperatures across the National Capital Region, as the IMD reported Palam as the coldest station at 8.2 degrees Celsius and flagged multiple western disturbances are set to bring fog, rain and snowfall to northern and central India in the coming days.
Safdarjung, Delhi’s base station, logged a minimum temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius, while Aya Nagar recorded 9.2 degrees Celsius. Minimum visibility of 1,100 metres was reported at Palam during the early morning hours.
The IMD said two western disturbances are likely to affect the Western Himalayan region, bringing isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall on February 5–6 and again on February 9–10.
Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected during the morning and night hours at isolated to a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, the plains of northwest India and west Madhya Pradesh till February 6.
Dense fog is also likely over Uttar Pradesh till February 7, while Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, northeast Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand and Meghalaya may witness foggy conditions over the next few days.
On temperature trends, the IMD forecast no significant change in minimum temperatures over northwest India during the next seven days, except Uttar Pradesh where a gradual fall of 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely over the next two to three days.
Central India may see a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, while East India is expected to record a fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
Gujarat is likely to witness no significant change in minimum temperatures for the next four days, followed by a gradual dip of 2-3 degrees Celsius.
Maharashtra may see a similar fall over the subsequent two days after stable temperatures during the next 24 hours. No significant change is expected over Northeast India.
Weather warnings have also been issued for isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on February 5 and 6, and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 6. Another wet spell is forecast over these regions on February 9 and 10.
The IMD further cautioned about isolated ground frost activity over Uttarakhand on February 4 and 5, urging residents and travellers in vulnerable areas to remain alert.
