Pak actress Humaira Asghar Ali found dead in Karachi apartment nine months after death

Karachi, July 11 (UNI) Pakistani model and actress Humaira Asghar Ali was found dead in her apartment in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on July 8, the local police. The actress had been dead for over nine months when the body was discovered, with the doctors stating that it was heavily decomposed to the point it was almost impossible to determine how she died, reports Geo News.

According to South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Asad Raza, the 32-year-old was discovered after police and a court bailiff arrived to execute a court order to vacate the flat due to non-payment of rent.

When repeated knocks at her door went unanswered, officers forcibly entered the fourth-floor apartment in Ittehad Commercial, Phase VI, where they found they found her rotting corpse.

Police said the body had likely been lying undiscovered for several days. “All doors were locked from inside,” said SSP-South Mahzoor Ali, adding that there were no immediate signs of foul play. The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where a post-mortem examination was carried out.

Adding to the grim mystery, Dr Summaiya Syed, police surgeon while conducting the autopsy, said the remains were in an “advanced stage of decomposition,” making it impossible to determine the cause of death at this stage.

Samples have been sent for DNA verification and chemical analysis. “The cause of death has been reserved until laboratory reports are received,” she said.

The case was made even more tragic when her family declined to claim her body. According to police, Asghar’s family had severed ties with her two years ago and have shown no interest in making arrangements for her burial.

Authorities have since taken on the responsibility of her funeral, with the Chhipa Foundation placing the body in cold storage.

Police said Humaira had been living alone in the apartment since 2018 and had reportedly stopped paying rent in early 2024.

Officers also confirmed she had limited social contact and was known to have struggled with drug addiction and tensions with neighbours.

Known for her appearance in the Pakistani reality show ‘Tamasha Ghar’ and a small role in the 2015 Punjabi film ‘Jalaibee’, Humaira was a lesser-known name in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.

Her death follows a similarly haunting incident last month, when veteran TV actress Ayesha Khan was found dead in her Gulshan-i-Iqbal apartment, also living in isolation.
