Orissa HC issues notices to Govt, OERC, Tata power over additional deposit dispute

Bhubaneshwar, Jan 13 (UNI) The move on part of the State Government Tata power Discom to collect additional security deposit (ASDs) from the consumers for installation of smart metres has come under judicial scrutiny with Orissa High Court on Tuesday issuing show cause notices to State’s energy department, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) and Tata power distribution company.
The demand notices issued by power distribution companies to consumers for additional security deposit (ASDs) have triggered widespread protest as the affected consumers had earlier paid security deposit for metre installation when the erstwhile Central Electricity Supply Utility shouldered the responsibility of power distribution, the petition filed by Sidharth Mohanty said.
It has been acknowledged by Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) that Tata Power has already collected an excess tariff of Rs.7,215 crore from 2018 to 2025 and fixed it in the Bank.
