New Delhi, Jul 18 (UNI) Delhi Police recovered 76 stolen vehicles and apprehended 11 alleged auto-lifters, including three juveniles in conflict with law, during a 72-hour district-wide anti-vehicle theft drive in the Outer district, officials said on Saturday.
The Outer district police, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Singh, conducted the three-day-long search and called it Operation CHAKRA. It involved personnel from the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS), police stations across the district and other specialised units.
According to the police, the operation helped work out 76 motor vehicle theft cases. The recovered vehicles included 75 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler. Of these, 23 were allegedly recovered from the possession of the accused, while 42 abandoned vehicles were traced from residential colonies and housing societies. Another 11 stolen vehicles were found in parking clusters.
In an official statement, the Police said the drive focused on identifying vehicle-theft hotspots, tracking suspicious vehicle movement through technical surveillance, verifying abandoned vehicles and carrying out raids on suspected auto-lifters and alleged receivers of stolen property. Additional pickets and mobile patrols were also deployed on routes considered vulnerable to vehicle theft, it added.
Eight of the apprehended suspects have been identified as Rohit (22), Karan (19), Sanpreet Singh (29), Japjeet Singh alias Japi (28), Shiva alias Sibbu (22), Abhishek Mota (22), Naim (30) and Jeeshan (30), all residents of Delhi. Three juveniles were also apprehended during the operation, said the Police.
Among the police units, Rani Bagh police station recovered 15 stolen vehicles, while Mangolpuri and Nihal Vihar recovered 11 each. Ranhola recovered 10 vehicles, Paschim Vihar East recovered nine, Mundka recovered five, Paschim Vihar West recovered two, and Nangloi and Sultanpuri recovered one each.
