One more dies of Amoebic Meningitis at KMCH, death toll rises to 6 within a month

Kozhikode, Sep 11 (UNI) A 47-year-old man, Shaji of Chelembra in Malappuram district, who had been undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (KMCH), succumbed to amoebic meningitis today.
The total number of deaths has risen to six within a month, including two reported this week at KMCH. Meanwhile, 11 more patients are undergoing treatment for the same disease in the district, 10 at KMCH and one at a private hospital in Kozhikode. One patient remains in critical condition as of this morning, sources said.
Earlier, five others had died of the disease at KMCH. They included a three-month-old boy, Muhammed Sahil from Omassery, who died on August 30; Anaya, a nine-year-old girl from Thamarassery, who passed away on August 16; Ramla, a 52-year-old woman from Cheroor near Kunnamangalam in Malappuram district, who died on August 30; Ratheesh, 45, of Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district, who died on September 6; and M. Sobhana, 56, of Thiruvali near Wandoor in Malappuram district, who died on September 8.
