Odisha Govt initiates steps to ensure supply of essential medicines during chemists’ strike

Bhubaneswar, May 19 (UNI) In the wake of nationwide bandh called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) on May 20, the Odisha government on Tuesday announced a series of contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential and life-saving medicines during the anticipated shutdown of chemist shops.
The Health and Family Welfare Department said elaborate arrangements had been made across the state to prevent disruption in medicine supply and healthcare services during the proposed shutdown.
According to the Drugs Controller of Odisha, all Niramaya centres operating in government health institutions will continue dispensing medicines to patients. Chief District Medical and Public Health Officers (CDM&PHOs) have been directed to closely monitor the situation and ensure uninterrupted functioning of these centres.
