Odisha Cabinet approves separate Archaeology Directorate for preservation of ancient heritage

Bhubaneswar, May 20 (UNI) The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Wednesday approved a proposal to establish a separate Directorate of Archaeology for the protection, preservation and management of the state’s rich archaeological heritage.
The new directorate will facilitate the restructuring of the Odisha Archaeological Curator Service and the formulation of cadre rules for improved administration and conservation of archaeological assets, including ancient temples and monuments discovered across the state.
Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg said the establishment of the Directorate of Archaeology would ensure proper protection of the state’s archaeological treasures and boost research and promotion of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
