Odisha: Cabinet Approves Rs.1,500 Cr Tourism Land Bank Scheme to Attract Private Investment

Bhubaneswar, June 8 (UNI) In a major push to transform Odisha into a leading tourism and hospitality destination, the State Cabinet today approved the ambitious "Land Bank for Hospitality Infrastructure" scheme, a landmark initiative aimed at creating investment-ready land parcels across key tourist destinations and attracting large-scale private investments in the sector.
The move comes as Odisha seeks to leverage its rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, spiritual centres, wildlife reserves and coastline to position itself among India's foremost tourism hubs and emerge as a prominent eco-cultural tourism destination in Asia under the Viksit Odisha 2036 and 2047 vision.
One of the key hurdles in developing world-class tourism infrastructure has been the limited availability of contiguous, encroachment-free and infrastructure-ready land.

Odisha panel clears premature release of Dara Singh, convicted in Staines murder case

Bhubaneswar, Jul 14 (UNI) The Odisha State Sentence Review Board (OSSRB) has recommended the premature release of Dara Singh, the life convict in the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons in Odisha's Keonjhar district, citing his "good behaviour" in prison.
The recommendation was made during the Board's meeting earlier this month, where it reviewed the cases of eligible life convicts for possible premature release.
