Obama, Hollywood pay tribute after Rob Reiner’s death

Los Angeles/New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) The Hollywood entertainment industry is in shock following the sudden death of director and actor Rob Reiner, who was found dead in an apparent homicide at his Los Angeles home alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.
Authorities discovered the bodies of the 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman inside Reiner's Brentwood residence on Sunday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Reiner family confirmed the deaths, stating, "We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time."
Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle also expressed their condolences, praising Reiner's belief in humanity and his social activism.
Obama’s post read, “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people, and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action.”
“Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them,” it further read.
The Los Angeles mayor, Karen Bass, called Reiner's death a "devastating loss" for the city, emphasizing his creative contributions and advocacy for social justice. The LAPD confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with no suspects detained or questioned.
Various celebrities have paid tribute to the couple. Christopher Guest and his wife Jamie Lee Curtis released a joint statement, expressing their shock and sadness over the tragic deaths of their friends.
Director Paul Feig wrote on X, "One of my most cherished pictures. Rob was my true hero. A true visionary titan and a lovely lovely person. One never knows if it's proper to post during something as tragic as this. But I just want the world to know what so many of us know in the industry. Rob was the best."
James Woods, who worked with Reiner on ‘Ghosts of Mississippi’ (1996), described them as good friends, highlighting their mutual respect despite political differences. Josh Gad remembered Reiner as "one of the greatest directors of our time" and a kind soul.
Other tributes came from Paul Walter Hauser, who wrote, “Grieving the loss of my favorite director of all-time. A Few Good Men is The reason I became an actor, and Rob's filmography behind the camera is The reason I wanted to direct and still do.”
"I can't handle the truth that one of the greatest filmmakers to ever live is gone. We lost one of the few good men. RIP, Rob Reiner," wrote filmmaker Joe Russo remembering the Hollywood legend.
Reiner and his wife are survived by children, Jake, Nick and Romy. He was the adoptive father of actress Tracy Reiner, the daughter of his first wife, the late actress and director Penny Marshall.
