NPP likely to field Meghalaya CM’s wife for assembly by-poll

Shillong, Jun 17 (UNI) The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya is likely to field Dr Mehtab Chandee Agitok Sangma, wife of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, for the by-poll for the Gambegre Assembly seat, party sources said on Monday.
The Gambegre assembly seat fell vacant after the resignation of sitting Congress legislator Saleng Sangma on June 10, after he was elected as member of the Lok Sabha from Tura parliamentary constituency.
“She (Chandee) is the most likely candidate (for the by-election) as of now,” the party official, who wished not to be quoted, told UNI.
