NorthEast United FC signs a landmark MoU with Meghalaya govt

Shillong, Oct 14 (UNI) NorthEast United FC has signed a landmark three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meghalaya government to accelerate football development in the region and position Shillong as the “Football Capital of India.”
The partnership, effective from 2025 to 2028, brings together NorthEast United FC, the Department of Tourism, and the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs in a unified effort to promote football culture, drive youth participation, and strengthen Meghalaya’s standing as one of India’s leading tourism destinations.
Under the MoU, the parties will collaborate on a range of initiatives, including football camps, coach education programmes, fan parks, and youth-oriented awareness drives aimed at nurturing grassroots talent and enhancing fan engagement.

Crackdown in Manipur: Opium fields destroyed, weapons seized

Imphal, Nov 16 UNI: A large-scale poppy destruction drive was carried out from November 11 to 15 across Ukhrul district, covering the hill ranges of Somdal, Lamlai Chingfei, and Litan. Security forces, in collaboration with government agencies, destroyed approximately 436 acres of poppy plantations, and 51 huts found at the cultivation sites were also burned, police said today.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered a substantial cache of arms and explosives from the areas adjoining Ngairangbam and Longa Koireng villages under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district.
