Panchkula, Sep 28 (UNI)Six workers have been killed after a three-storey under-construction building partially collapsed in Haryana's Ambala district, with rescue teams searching the debris through the night, officials said on Monday.
The building collapsed at Dhulkot village near Ambala City at around 3 pm on Sunday, when workers were casting a concrete roof slab on the third floor. The death toll, initially put at four, rose to six as rescuers recovered more bodies from the debris. The site saw the deployment of teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire services, and district administration.
The search continued overnight as officials feared more workers could be trapped. According to information available on Monday morning, four injured workers are undergoing treatment at Ambala City Civil Hospital.
Civil Surgeon Renu Berry has earlier said 12 injured workers have been brought to the hospital, with some subsequently discharged after treatment.
Ambala Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat said the cause of the collapse and the legality of the construction would be investigated. Police and the district administration are also verifying the ownership and construction-related documents. "If any unauthorised construction or negligence is found, legal action will be taken," Shekhawat said.
