Sukhu Govt feared defeat, tried to avoid Panchayat Polls: Jairam Thakur

Ashok Raina Kangra, Sep 21 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has alleged that the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government had used the disaster situation as an excuse to delay the Panchayati Raj elections, fearing defeat. Addressing a felicitation function for newly elected Panchayati Raj representatives of Jaisinghpur Assembly constituency, Thakur said the BJP had approached the High Court and later the Supreme Court to ensure that elections were held, arguing that the basic unit of democracy could not be entrusted to Panchayat Secretaries, Junior Engineers and draftsmen.
