IMD forecasts isolated rainfall as monsoon withdrawal advances

Panchkula, Oct 3 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from October 6 to 8 and over Punjab from October 7 to 8, even as conditions become favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the region.

According to the IMD's All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued at 8 a.m. on October 3, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are expected to remain dry from October 3 to 5 before isolated rainfall activity begins on October 6. Punjab is forecast to remain dry through October 6, with isolated rainfall expected from October 7.

The IMD said the current withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon passes through Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur, Deesa and Naliya. "Conditions are likely to become favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh" during the next 24 hours, the weather department said.

The IMD's latest subdivision-wise warning bulletin, however, shows no weather warning for Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi or Punjab from October 3 to 9. Maximum temperatures in Punjab were largely near normal on October 2, while isolated places in Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi recorded temperatures above normal by 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.

The IMD forecast isolated rainfall over Himachal Pradesh from October 5 to 8, Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh from October 6 to 8, Uttarakhand on October 5-6 and October 8, and West Uttar Pradesh on October 6-7. Uttarakhand could receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on October 7.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, are likely at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh on October 6 and 7.

The IMD's current warning page also confirms thunderstorm and lightning warnings for Himachal Pradesh on those two days. In southern India, isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe from October 4 to 6, and over South Interior Karnataka on October 5 and 6.
