Himachal procures 13,203 MT of apples under MIS, production hit by adverse weather

Shimla, October 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh has procured 13,202.666 metric tonnes of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) so far this season, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said on Friday, attributing the decline in production to adverse weather conditions during critical stages of crop development. Addressing a press conference here, Negi said untimely and unseasonal rainfall, cold weather during the flowering stage and inadequate chilling hours had adversely affected apple production this year. lHe said 1,23,34,739 apple boxes had reached markets so far during the current season, while procurement under the MIS was being carried out through the Himachal…
