NHRC issues notices to UP govt, Ghaziabad DM over 24 maternal deaths in seven months

Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the reported deaths of 24 women during pregnancy-related treatment or childbirth at various government and private hospitals in Ghaziabad district between April and October 2026. Taking note of the media report, the Commission on Thursday issued notices to the Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh, and the District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, seeking detailed reports on the matter within two weeks.
