Women observe fast as 'Karwachauth' celebrated with fervour in Jammu

Jammu, Oct 29 (UNI) Women observed a day-long fast as the festival of 'Karwachauth' was celebrated with fervour here today. 'Karwachauth' is a traditional festival celebrated particularly in North India, during which married women observe a fast for the long life of their husbands. Women wake up in the early hours of the morning and have 'sargi' (a traditional pre-dawn meal) before sunrise. They break their fast only after sighting the moon in the evening, with many observing the fast without even drinking water throughout the day.
