Cartoonists of national repute to join three-day Basohli Utsav in Kathua from Oct 19

Jammu, Sep 27 (UNI) Leading cartoonists are set to attend this year's three-day 'Basohli Utsav' scheduled to be held from October 19 to 21 in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

'Basohli Utsav' is an annual feature being organised bringing together culture, art, heritage and creativity from across the region under one umbrella. As per a handout, the special cartoon segment will feature four well-known cartoonists from outside Jammu and Kashmir including Sagar Kumar, an internationally recognised cartoonist from Chhattisgarh; Subhani from Telangana, Manoj Kuril, a well-known cartoonist recognised across India and Madhav Joshi.

Cartoonists from Jammu and Kashmir including Manoj Chopra, Chander Shekhar, and Shah Tariq will also showcase their creative skills through live cartoon-making sessions, workshops and an exhibition. Visitors, particularly children and young artists, will get an opportunity to watch these stalwarts work and learn the basic techniques of an art. A special exhibition will present cartoons based on important social themes, including 'Swachh Bharat', 'Say No to Drugs and Road Safety'.

Through humour and visual storytelling, the cartoons will communicate simple but meaningful social messages to the public. A major attraction will be the outdoor cartoon exhibition, where artworks will be displayed in an open public space rather than inside a conventional art gallery.

This will allow visitors to experience cartoon art while enjoying the cultural atmosphere of Basohli, it read. The participation of cartoonists from different states, along with artists from Jammu and Kashmir, will add a new creative dimension to 'Basohli Utsav', that attracts hundreds of people not only from Jammu and Kashmir but also neighbouring Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The initiative will provide a common platform for artists, visitors and young talent while promoting art, social awareness and cultural exchange.
