J&K govt sets up two State Cancer Institutes to tackle rising cancer burden

Srinagar, Sept 22 (UNI) Minister for Medical and Health Education, Sakeena Itoo Tuesday said that the Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted an Apex Committee to strengthen a coordinated and comprehensive response to the growing burden of cancer cases and to provide guidance and formulate measures for prevention, screening and treatment of the disease. Jammu and Kashmir currently has around 51,000 cancer cases. The government has established two State Cancer Institutes in the union Territory to provide specialised cancer care.
