No immediate threat to safety after Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant incident: IAEA

Vienna, Aug 12 (UNI ) The fire at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) earlier on Sunday has caused "no impact on nuclear safety," the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement issued late last night.
The IAEA experts stationed at the ZNPP "witnessed thick dark smoke coming from the north-western area of the plant, after hearing multiple explosions throughout the evening." They were informed by the plant that "a drone had allegedly struck one of the plant's two cooling towers," the United Nations nuclear watchdog said.
The IAEA explained that damage to the cooling tower" does not directly impact the safety of the six units in shutdown" but the latest incident represents a risk of spreading the fire to facilities essential to nuclear safety.

Tel Aviv/Damascus, July 16 (UNI) Shortly after Israel’s attacks on Syria due to violence against the indigenous Druze community, and the US bid for calm, Tel Aviv has put the onus of reaching peace on Damascus, with a senior official stating that any kind of peace agreement with the new Syrian administration “depends on how the regime behaves.”

“Everything depends on how this regime behaves. There’s no doubt things have taken a negative turn in the past few days, after a brief period of calm. But we’re not deluding ourselves,” said the official, reports Times of Israel.
