Nitish Model of Women’s empowerment, a benchmark for nation: Kushwaha

Patna, Apr 16 (UNI) Bihar JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha said on Thursday that the “Nitish Model” of empowering women through political representation has become a model for the entire country.
He highlighted that under the leadership of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar became the first state in India to provide 50 percent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions in 2006 and later in urban local bodies in 2007.
Kushwaha said this progressive step has led to a significant rise in women’s participation in governance, with many now serving as mayors, zilla parishad members, block chief, mukhiya, panchayat samiti members and ward councillors. He stated that Kumar had long recognised that social and economic development is not possible without women’s empowerment.
