More News17 Jun 2025 | 12:46 AMShillong, June 16 (UNI) In a tragic incident, a 42-year-old boatman drowned at the Umngot river on the edge of the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya today after falling from the boat.The deceased, identified as Amilson Surong, fell from the boat while ferrying tourists on the Umngot River in Dawki under the West Jaintia Hills district.Village Defence Party (VDP) Dawki President, Kelvinel Khonglah said Surong was out on a routine boat ride with three female tourists when he suddenly experienced a seizure, lost control and fell into the river.The boatman's body was retrieved from the murky water after several hours of search and rescue operation launched by the police, fire & emergency services and local villagers.
