Nilakshika steers SL to thrilling five-wicket win over NZ

Southampton, Jun 16 (UNI) An unbeaten half-century by Nilakshika Silva guided Sri Lanka Women to a crucial five-wicket victory over New Zealand Women in a Group B match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Rose Bowl here on Tuesday.
Silva held her nerve with a match-winning 54 not out off 37 balls as Sri Lanka chased down a competitive target of 151, finishing on 153 for five in 19.4 overs to strengthen their position in the tournament.
The chase appeared to be slipping away after Sri Lanka collapsed from 45 without loss to 55 for four. New Zealand’s bowlers, led by Nensi Patel, seized control by removing key batswomen in quick succession and putting the Islanders under pressure.
