NIA seeks cancellation of bail for Elgar Parishad accused over Mumbai Press Club meeting

Mumbai, June 11 (UNI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has moved an application befire a special court seeking the cancellation of bail granted to Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira in the Pune Elgar Parishad–Maoist links case, alleging that they violated bail conditions by attending a meeting with co-accused persons who are also out on bail.
The agency, in separate applications, alleged that Gonsalves and Ferreira participated in a gathering held on January 19 at the terrace of the Mumbai Press Club. The meeting was allegedly attended by co-accused Anand Teltumbde, Rona Wilson, Sudhir Dhawale, Hany Babu and Gautam Navlakha, all of whom are currently on bail.
The NIA said that the gathering violated bail conditions that prohibited the two accused from contacting or communicating with co-accused persons or individuals connected to the case. It further alleged that the meeting was convened “to propagate the ideology of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) and deliberate upon the future course of action to spread the urban Naxal movement.”
