New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday recovered high grade explosives during searches in Khunti district following the arrest of an armed cadre of banned CPI (Maoist).
The agency recovered 100 meters Cordtex wire and 126 high grade explosive gelatin sticks weighing 15 kgs during searches conducted in the dense forest of Korangburu hillock at Jilingkel in Khunti district after apprehending Naina aka Birsa Birhor aka Birsa Munda.
The case pertains to attack on the police party by the cadres of CPI (Maoist), at around 1630 hrs on June 14, 2019 at Kukru Haat in Saraikela-Kherswan district, in which five police personnel were killed and their arms and ammunition looted.
A case was registered at PS Tiruldih of Saraikela-Kherswan. The Jharkhand Police had arrested a total of 11 accused and filed two charge-sheets against them.
NIA took over this case on December 9 last year and re-registered the case and began probe.
During the course of investigation, it arrested five more accused, who were the armed cadres of CPI (Maoist).
While interrogating accused Naina aka Birsa Birhor, it was revealed that explosives procured by the cadres of CPI(Maoist) were hidden at the Korangburu hillock, in Jilingkel in Khunti district which the probe agency, with the help of local police and a unit of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), recovered.
The explosives were planned to be used against the security forces by CPI (Maoist), the NIA officials said, adding that further investigation in the case has been continued.
