NHRC takes suo motu cognizance of branding of children by faith healer in MP

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging that three kids suffering from pneumonia were branded with a hot iron rod by a faith healer in Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh. The condition of one of the children is reported to be serious, the NHRC noted in a statement here.
Medical professionals have confirmed that the children were indeed suffering from pneumonia and had burn marks on their bodies. The NHRC expressed concern that the incident, if verified, amounts to a grave violation of human rights.
In response, the Commission has issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Jhabua, seeking a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. The report follows media coverage dated September 25, 2025, which stated that the children’s parents had taken them to the faith healer.
