NHRC takes suo motu cognisance of abduction and rape of minor girl in Kanpur

Kanpur, Jan 15(UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report concerning the abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. One of the alleged perpetrators in the case is reported to be a Sub-Inspector of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of January 5, 2026. Taking note of the seriousness of the matter, the Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a grave issue of human rights violation.
Accordingly, the NHRC has issued a notice to the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
