NHRC notice over death of sanitation worker due to toxic gas inhalation in Satna

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the reported death of a sanitation worker and the hospitalization of two others following inhalation of toxic gases while cleaning an underground sewer in Satna, Madhya Pradesh.
The incident occurred on September 25, 2025, when the workers reportedly lost consciousness inside the sewer and were rescued by local residents.
In a statement here today, the Commission said that it has issued notices to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation and the Superintendent of Police, Satna, seeking a detailed report within two weeks. The report is expected to include the status of the investigation and information on compensation paid, if any, to the deceased worker’s next of kin and the injured workers, said the statement.
