Russia insists on package of agreements on sustainable peace in Ukraine: FM Lavrov

Moscow, Dec 11(UNI/Sputnik) Russia is pressing for a comprehensive package of agreements to secure a lasting, sustainable peace in Ukraine, complete with security guarantees for all sides, Lavrov said. "We insist that a package of agreements be reached on a lasting, sustainable, long-term peace with security guarantees for all the countries involved. And our talks with US President [Donald Trump] and his team are devoted to this very thing, the search for long-term regulation to eliminate the root causes of this crisis," Lavrov said at an embassy round table on the settlement of the situation around Ukraine.
Before the beginning of the special military operation, Russia gave its proposals to the United States and NATO aimed at ensuring security guarantees on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, the Russian FM said.
"However, the Americans and NATO rejected our proposals. Only when we realized that the West was going to provide a carte blanche to the Ukrainian nationalists for a forcible solution and suppression of those who rejected the coup d'etat [in 2014]—only then our president said that we had no other choice other than beginning the special military operation to protect the population of the southeast of Ukraine," he added.
