China offers to build military base for Tajikistan on Afghan border

Kabul, Oct 28 (UNI) Tajik officials have said that China has offered to build a $8.6 million military base on the border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan where Tajik military personnel will be stationed.
The police outpost, which is later supposed to be handed over to the Tajik paramilitary unit, is planned to be built close to Vakhon, Wakhan of Afghanistan’s northern Badakhshan province.
According to Khaama Press Agency, China has already been running a military base in Kulob, which Tajikistan has offered to fully transfer to China.
China had built the Kulob military base in 2016.
A communique written and sent from Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to the Chinese embassy reads that China should build more outposts on the border with Afghanistan in return for giving full control of their previous base.
Though China has been very friendly and maintained close relations with the Taliban since they took power, the country also appears to harbour a fear of terrorists pouring in from Afghanistan into China.
