1 killed, 9 injured in Israeli airstrike on Lebanese village

Beirut, June 19 (UNI) One civilian was killed, and nine others were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a southern Lebanese village, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.
The sources, who spoke anonymously, said that Israeli drones launched six missiles at two cars, killing one civilian in the first car and wounding eight others in the second car and another riding a bicycle in the village of al-Borgholiye, north of the Tyre city.
They added that Israeli warplanes raided Tuesday four towns and villages in the border area in southern Lebanon, destroying and damaging several houses.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces posted aerial surveillance footage showing the bombardment of two cars on social media platform X, saying its aircraft attacked "UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) launch teams" of Hezbollah earlier in the day.
During the past few days, border villages and towns in southern Lebanon witnessed an unprecedented escalation between Hezbollah and the Israeli army.
The military sources said that the Lebanese army positions monitored the launch of dozens of surface-to-surface missiles in the afternoon and several drones from southern Lebanon to northern Israel.
Also on Tuesday, a Hezbollah source confirmed to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed TV, a pan-Arab news outlet, that Hezbollah will not retreat beyond the Litani River, which the source said is an Israeli condition to reach an agreement to end the confrontations.
"Stopping the war in the Gaza Strip alone would affect the Lebanon front, and all parties' efforts (to end the escalation) out of the framework are in vain," the source added, referring to the visit of U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein to Beirut on Tuesday aimed at de-escalating tensions on the Israel-Lebanon border.
Tensions along the border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
