French police detained 200 people in Paris

Paris, Aug 2 (UNI) French police have made 200 detentions since the start of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Friday.
"The first statistical data of the first Olympic Games week is out: 200 detentions, including 180 people taken into custody. There was a 24% drop in violent thefts in Paris and Parisian suburbs, vehicle thefts were down by 10%," Darmanin told the media.
The minister attributed the decline in criminality to greater police presence in public places and thanked police officers and gendarmes for their work. He emphasized the use of more CCTV cameras, the opening of new commissariats and more active police hiring as measures that contributed to public security.
