Monsoon makes earliest withdrawal from Mumbai in seven years

Mumbai, Oct 10 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officially declared the withdrawal of monsoon from Mumbai today, marking the earliest retreat the city has witnessed in seven years and the second earliest since 2006.
This year's monsoon departure, though delayed beyond the normal withdrawal date, brings closure to a season that began with concerns over water scarcity but concluded with sufficient reservoir levels to sustain the city for the coming year.
The meteorological department confirmed the monsoon's retreat from Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, noting complete withdrawal from forty-five percent of Maharashtra's territory. Over the past three days, the city and its suburbs have experienced no rainfall amid predominantly humid conditions. This year's monsoon pattern featured a late onset that initially raised alarms as water reserves diminished significantly, prompting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to implement a ten percent water cut during the critical period.
