Shinde vows action against illegal Bangladeshis; verification of papers planned

Mumbai, Feb 13 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday announced that the state government would initiate strict measures against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Mumbai. He said Aadhaar cards and other government documents allegedly obtained fraudulently would be verified.
Stating that the city must be made “Bangladeshi-free”, Shinde said investigations would be conducted wherever such individuals are found and necessary action would be taken, including deportation.
His remarks came shortly after newly elected Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde declared that action against illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya hawkers would be a key priority during her tenure. She had said a joint meeting with police and civic officials would be convened to identify and remove hawkers allegedly encroaching on city roads.
