Amit Thackeray slams 'money-driven' political culture

Mumbai, June 5 (UNI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) youth leader Amit Thackeray has launched a scathing attack on the state's current political ecosystem calling out the pervasive influence of wealth and patronage in candidate selection.
Speaking during a cleanliness drive on Friday, Amit, son of MNS Chief Raj Thackeray, accused political parties of prioritizing candidates with "vast wealth and connections" over merit, further noting that this perceived entitlement among leaders has aliented the public which elects them.
Highlighting what he termed as "the commodification of local elections", Thackeray alleged that seats in municipal bodies are being "bought" for crores of rupees.
