BJP dominates Maharashtra municipal elections, Wins control of 25 Corporations

Mumbai, Jan 16 ( UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the dominant force in Maharashtra’s municipal elections, securing control over 25 of the state’s 29 municipal corporations. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the performance as historic and congratulated party workers while thanking voters for their support.
One of the most significant victories came in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), considered India’s richest civic body with a budget larger than that of several small states.
The BJP–Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), the Mahayuti alliance, wrested control of the BMC, ending the Shiv Sena’s 25-year-long rule. In the BMC, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 90 seats, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) won 28 seats.
