Railway vigilance arrests 28 illegal vendors, Forged catering IDs seized during surprise raid

Igatpuri (Maharashtra), Jan 14 (UNI) In a major crackdown, the Central Railway Vigilance Department busted an organised large network of fake and unauthorised vendors operating at Igatpuri Railway Station, arresting 28 persons found posing as authorised catering staff and moving freely among passengers and trains, an official said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out on January 13, following specific intelligence inputs received by vigilance officials regarding the presence of fake vendors at the station. Acting on the information, a special vigilance team conducted a surprise raid at multiple locations within the station premises and apprehended the accused while they were actively operating as vendors.
During the operation, vigilance officials recovered a large number of forged identity cards purportedly issued by catering contractors A H Wheeler and Dodamani Canteen. According to officials, these fake identity cards were being used by the accused to gain unrestricted access to platforms, trains and restricted areas of the station, posing a serious risk to passenger safety and railway operations.
