Mumbai court refuses relief to Bihar businessman in forged stamp racket

Mumbai, Jan 11 (UNI) A Mumbai sessions court has rejected the bail application of a Bihar-based businessman, Shahid Raza, who was arrested on October 16 last year in connection with an inter-state counterfeit postal stamp racket. The court held that the allegations indicate the use of forged Indian postal stamps and observed that the offence appeared to have ramifications across the country.
The case was registered following a complaint filed by the Postal Inspector attached to the Mumbai General Post Office with the MRA Marg police station. The investigation was initiated after the Chief Postmaster General of Madhya Pradesh sent a confidential communication to the Mumbai General Post Office, stating that five postal articles dispatched from Mumbai were found to bear counterfeit postal stamps.
During the probe, authorities traced the stamps used on the letters to K. K. Services, a firm operating from Bhayander. Investigators further established that the postal articles were linked to a multinational company, which had entrusted K. K. Services with the task of booking the consignments. It was revealed that the cheque issued towards postal charges had been handed over to Rakesh Bind, one of the accused in the case.
