Mulani anchors Mumbai to 254 despite early collapse

Bengaluru, Jan 12 (UNI) Shams Mulani produced a brilliant knock under pressure to rescue Mumbai from early trouble and steer them to a competitive 254 for 8 against Karnataka in the first quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite 2025-26 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 here on Monday.
After Karnataka won the toss and elected to bowl, Mumbai found scoring difficult against a disciplined attack and a lively field. The innings never gathered early momentum, with the mandatory powerplay yielding just 31 runs. Ishan Mulchandani was the first to fall for 20, followed quickly by Musheer Khan (9) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27), leaving Mumbai reeling at 57 for 3.
Siddhesh Lad attempted to stabilise the innings but struggled to accelerate, making 38 off 58 balls before falling at 136 for 5. Hardik Tamore departed cheaply, and at one stage Mumbai were 60 for 4, staring at the prospect of a below-par total on a surface offering assistance to bowlers.
