Gill lauds Reddy, Rana as India eye stable 2027 WC lineup

Indore, Jan 18 (UNI) Indian captain Shubman Gill on Sunday said the team is experimenting with combinations and giving young players opportunities as part of preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was promoted ahead of senior player Ravindra Jadeja in the decisive third ODI against New Zealand, and the move paid off as he scored a crucial 53 off 57 balls, forming an 88-run partnership with Virat Kohli to stabilise India’s innings during a challenging chase of 338. Despite his efforts and Kohli's century, India fell short, losing the match by 41 runs to New Zealand.
"Keeping the World Cup in mind, we want to give Nitish Reddy opportunities and enough overs to see what combinations work for us and what kind of deliveries work for him," Gill told reporters in the post-match press conference here.
