Amid US Tariff jolt: Seafood industry urges value addition, market diversification

Kochi, Nov 6 (UNI) India’s seafood export sector is facing a serious challenge following the recent tariff hike imposed by the United States, triggering strong calls from industry leaders and policymakers for rapid market diversification, enhanced value addition, and technology-led innovation to protect the country’s export earnings.
These concerns dominated the Industry Meet held alongside the fourth International Symposium on Marine Ecosystems (MECOS-4) at the ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) here.
With exports to the US, India’s largest seafood market, witnessing a decline in recent months, stakeholders from across the seafood value chain urged immediate steps to minimise the financial impact and secure new markets.
