(REOPEN) TELANGANA SLBC TUNNEL LEAD CM TWO LAST HYDERABAD

Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the state has entered a new era of science-based irrigation management with the launch of the helicopter-borne VTEM Plus electromagnetic survey for the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) Tunnel-1 project.
The survey aims to gather precise underground data to safely complete the remaining works within two years and deliver water to millions in Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts.
Reddy explained that the SLBC project, designed to irrigate 3 lakh acres and supply drinking water to 30 lakh people, has faced delays due to geological challenges. Of the 42 km-long tunnel, about 9.8 km remain unfinished after a collapse earlier this year. The ongoing survey, conducted by the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) using Canada’s VTEM Plus system, can detect geological features up to 1,000 metres deep. The data will help engineers identify fault zones, rock strength and underground water flows for safe tunnelling.
