Abolish NEET, allow states to fill up UG medical seats based on Class 12 marks : TN CM Vijay urges Centre

Chennai, May 13 (UNI) Hours after emerging victorious in the confidence vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and amid the row over cancelling the already held exams after allegations of question paper leak surfaced, Chief Minister and ruling TVK President C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday evening urged the BJP-led Government at the Centre to abolish NEET exams for UG medical courses and permit the respective States to fill up all the seats based on the marks secured in the Class 12 board exams.
Pointing out that the introduction of NEET has severely disadvantaged the students from rural areas, Government schools, Tamil medium backgrounds, and socio-economically disadvantaged families, he reiterated the State's long pending demand to abolish NEET and permit the States to fill all seats under the State quota in MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses on the basis of Class 12 marks.
In a statement here, Vijay said the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG 2026) was conducted by the National Testing Agency on May 3 this year across 5,432 centres.
