Telangana Govt urges political parties to back 42 pc BC reservations in local body polls

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (UNI) Telangana BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar today appealed to all political parties and caste organizations to extend support to the state government’s decision to implement 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections.
Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Prabhakar said the government had fulfilled its promise by conducting a caste survey, setting up a dedicated commission and sub-committee, holding cabinet discussions, and securing unanimous approval in the Legislative Assembly before sending the proposal to the Governor and the President.
He pointed out that similar precedents exist in other states and cited the Supreme Court’s recent observation in the Tamil Nadu case, where a pending bill beyond three months was deemed approved.
