Telangana Congress leaders to leave for Delhi to defend 42 pc BC quota in local polls

Hyderabad, Oct 5 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will leave for Delhi this evening to hold consultations with senior lawyers on the state government’s decision to provide 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes in local body elections.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has reiterated his government’s commitment to conduct the long-delayed local body elections by implementing 42 per cent BC quota. A Government Order (GO 9) has already been issued, and the Election Commission has announced the poll schedule.
With an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on the matter, the state government is preparing to make strong legal arguments in favour of its decision. The three senior leaders will meet legal experts in Delhi to seek advice and finalise the strategy to defend the state’s stand before the apex court, an official statement said.
