Bhagwat rejects Kharge's demand for RSS registration

Bengaluru/Thrissur, June 15 (UNI) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday strongly defended the organisation's legal and historical status, arguing that the RSS did not require registration and drawing a parallel with Hindu Dharma itself amid a fresh political controversy triggered by Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge seeking greater transparency from the Sangh.
Responding to demands that the RSS should register as an organisation, Bhagwat said such calls stemmed from politics rather than any genuine legal concern. "Hindu Dharma is not registered. Many things are not registered. Those who want government funds require registration. But government knows the Sangh is there," Bhagwat said at the "100 Years of Sangh Journey" held at Thrissur.
The remarks came after Kharge wrote to Bhagwat challenging the RSS to publicly disclose its legal status, finances, assets and tax compliance, arguing that no organisation, irrespective of its influence, should remain beyond scrutiny in a constitutional democracy.
